We are a co-ed competitive running team for both high school students (grades 9-12) and middle school students (grades 6-8) who are educated at home. Our team typically has 1.5 hour practices together at a local park in the early mornings on 3 days each week + athletes are expected to train on their own on an additional 2-3 days each week, as advised by the coaches. Once meets begin, there are usually 3 team events (practices/meets) per week, with athletes continuing to train on their own on the other 2-3 days in the week. We often travel to meets within a 1.5-hour radius of Bryan/College Station. The team starts practicing together in early July, with meets typically held on Saturday mornings (roughly 8a - 12p) during Sep & Oct. We compete in public school-, private school-, and homeschool meets.

Cross country running is a unique sport in which teams and individuals run races on outdoor courses over natural terrain such as grass or dirt. The additional excitement of not knowing what to expect from the racecourse (which can include open landscape, wooded trails, mud, hills or flat terrain) is part of what makes this sport interesting. There’s variety in every race, as it is held in different outdoor locations.
A lot of runners compete in a single race at the same time, with members from each team assembling at the starting line. A race official will give the signal, and all the participants will run at the same time. Competitors in cross country running are also called harriers. They can participate as individual contenders or part of a scoring team (usually 5-7 members). The cross country racing season usually happens during the fall, but most athletes train the whole year-round.
Typical Race Distances
High School Boys: 5K or 3mi
High School Girls: 2mi or 5K
Middle School Boys & Girls: 1.5 - 2 miles
