We are a co-ed competitive running team for both high school students (grades 9-12) and middle school students (grades 6-8) who are educated at home. Our team typically has 1.25-1.5 hour practices together at a local park in the early mornings on 2-3 days each week at a local park in the early mornings, + athletes are expected to run on their own on an additional 2-3 days each week, as advised by the coaches. Once meets begin, there are usually 3 team events (practices, meets) per week, with athletes continuing to run on their own on the other 2-3 days in the week as advised by the coaches.. We often travel to meets within a 1.5-hour radius of Bryan/College Station. The team starts practicing together in early-July, with meets typically held on Saturdays in Sep thru Oct. We compete in public school-, private school-, and homeschool meets.

Cross Country running is a unique sport. A sport without half-time, without time outs, and everyone on the team competes. Cross Country is a running sport that takes place outside in the fall part of the year on varying terrains. What makes Cross Country different to any other running competition is the course. Courses could consist of open terrain, grass, mud, sand, and often hills. Cross Country lends itself to team as well as individual sport competition. In the team format, points are rewarded for the position achieved by each member in the overall race. Scoring is different than most other sports: low score wins. Cross Country races require a mass start for all race competitors which leads directly to a narrow terrain. Each team is allotted an equal amount of space along the starting line. Usually the top seven runners compete at Varsity level and the remaining of the team compete at Junior Varsity.
Typical Race Distances
Varsity Boys: 5k (3.1 miles)
Junior Varsity Boys: 2mi or 5k
Varsity Girls: 2mi or 5k
Junior Varsity Girls: 2 miles
Middle School Boys & Girls: 2 miles
